The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has unveiled its highly anticipated 2022-2023 “Environmental, Social, and Governance Report,” showcasing its pivotal role in fostering sustainability and driving digital innovation within Hong Kong.
The report underscores HKPC’s dedication to supporting national and HKSAR Government policies, leveraging innovation and technology (I&T) to enhance productivity while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability. These efforts are integral to Hong Kong’s transformation into a greener, more prosperous smart city.
The Chairman of HKPC stressed the importance of sustainable development in addressing global challenges such as climate change and the energy crisis. HKPC has committed to supporting initiatives like “Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050,” the “Carbon Neutrality Partnership,” and the “3060 Dual Carbon Targets.”
In line with the HKSAR Government’s goal to halve carbon emissions by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, HKPC aims to meet these targets at the HKPC Building by 2040. As Hong Kong advances into new industrialisation, HKPC is focused on implementing green technologies and innovative solutions, crafting a comprehensive low-carbon transformation plan, and providing extensive I&T support.
These efforts aim to develop Hong Kong into a leading international I&T and green finance hub and a world-class liveable smart city. HKPC is committed to driving economic growth, environmental protection, and fulfilling ESG responsibilities for a sustainable, low-carbon future.
The report notes that following its established Vision, Mission, Core Values, and strategic direction of the Game Plan, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is dedicated to promoting productivity excellence. HKPC aims to enhance the development and competitiveness of local enterprises, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups, by driving advanced technologies and innovative services.
As a key enabler of Industry 4.0 and Enterprise 4.0, HKPC facilitates new industrialisation and supports Hong Kong’s ambition to become an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub and a smart city. Collaborating closely with partners, HKPC works with industries, enterprises, and R&D institutes to provide value-added technology solutions and talent development programs. Their efforts have earned them numerous recognitions and awards; in 2022 alone, HKPC received 98 local and international accolades in innovation & technology, corporate development, and human resources management.
To support the Government’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and ensure community well-being, HKPC has pledged to reach this target at the HKPC Building by 2040. They are committed to decarbonisation, reducing air pollutants, minimising waste, and fostering green technology innovations for a low-carbon future. In May 2022, HKPC reinforced its environmental sustainability commitment by unveiling the “Green Hall,” which showcases innovative GreenTech solutions that promote greener lifestyles and contribute to Hong Kong’s carbon neutrality goal. HKPC’s dedication to environmental sustainability is also reflected in its Green Procurement Policy and Environmental Policy, guiding green practices in daily operations.
The report also notes that the HKSAR Government’s launch of the “Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint” in late 2022 marked a strategic commitment to fostering a comprehensive innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem. This initiative aims to propel the city into an era of advanced, sustainable industrialisation. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is a fervent supporter of this vision, advocating for intelligent production and eco-friendly industry practices.
The New Industrialisation Development Centre (NI Centre) is also a strategic initiative to advance Hong Kong’s industrial sector by addressing critical needs in technology, talent, and resources. By focusing on the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics, the NI Centre is set to support enterprises in boosting their efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and creating a robust ‘Made-in-Hong-Kong’ brand. This initiative is designed to cement the city’s status as a hub of innovation and technological advancement in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond. By providing essential support and resources, the NI Centre aims to foster a new wave of industrialisation that is both sustainable and technologically advanced.
HKPC remains dedicated to enhancing productivity through technological advancement, supporting the development of a resilient and innovative industrial sector in Hong Kong. Their ongoing efforts in promoting advanced technologies and sustainable practices are vital to the city’s growth and its aspiration to become a leading smart city and I&T hub.
