India inks MoU for cooperation in the field of Electronics and IT

The Union Cabinet chaired by Indian Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, in New Delhi on 23 May, approved of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Angola for mutual support in the field of Electronics and Information Technologies.

The MoU aims at achieving closer cooperation between the two countries in the areas of e-Governance, Human Resource Development for IT Education, Information Security, Electronics Hardware Manufacturing, the IT Embedded Software Industry, and Telemedicine etc.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is responsible for promoting international cooperation in emerging and frontier areas of Information Communications and Technology (ICT) in the context of bilateral regional cooperation, the official release added.

It also noted that the IT Ministry has signed number of MoUs and agreements with partner organisations and agencies in various countries to encourage close cooperation and the exchange of information in this field.

Furthermore, to strengthen mutual ties between India and the countries, especially in light of the new projects and programmes created by the Government, such as "Digital India", "Make in India", “DigiGaon” etc., there is a greater need to expand international relations to create more far reaching business opportunities in the field of Electronics and Information Technology.

The released stated that for more focussed cooperation, The Ministry of IT has outlined an extensive and all-inclusive MoU in the Information Communication and Technological (ICT) sector such as in the areas of e-Governance, data security, the manufacturing and production of electronic hardware, and IT embedded computing and computer systems, etc.

The draft of the MoU was finalised and after negations came to an end. The release said the MoU was signed during the visit of Honourable Minister of State for External Affairs Mr M.J. Akbar on behalf of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India and by Mr Domingos Custodio Vieira Lopes, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, on behalf of Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Government of Angola.
