Recently, Mr Somboon Mekpaiboonwattana, a specialist in digital and communications technology management, led a delegation that included Ms Phonpan Tannukit, Director of the National Space Affairs Division, and Ms Sureeporn Phonsophonwich, Director of the Digital Development Fund for Economic and Social Administration Division.

These officials, representing the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (NCDC), embarked on a visit to assess and monitor the progress of the 5G Use Case project. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Prince of Songkla University.

The 5G Use Case project stands as a cornerstone in the meticulous preparations for the revival of the tourism economy in the picturesque Phuket Province. This ambitious and multifaceted project represents a holistic approach to revitalising the tourism sector and ensuring the safety and convenience of travellers and the local population.

One of the fundamental components of this undertaking is the development and seamless implementation of the Phuket Sandbox Platform system. This state-of-the-art system is designed to provide an integrated and technologically advanced platform that facilitates various aspects of travel, from entry protocols to monitoring and communication. It is poised to enhance the visitor experience while maintaining stringent safety standards.

Furthermore, the project places a strong emphasis on public health and safety with the establishment of a robust screening and notification system. This system is a critical tool in the early detection of potential health risks and the efficient dissemination of information to relevant authorities and individuals. It ensures that health concerns are addressed promptly, contributing to a secure and worry-free travel environment.

In line with the commitment to cutting-edge technology and efficient border management, the 5G Use Case project includes deploying an advanced Smart Gate system. This sophisticated technology streamlines immigration and customs procedures, making entry and exit processes more convenient and expedited for travellers. It enhances the overall visitor experience and contributes to the efficient management of tourist flows.

The official visit of the delegation, led by Mr Somboon Mekpaiboonwattana, a specialist in digital and communications technology management, alongside esteemed colleagues including Ms Phonpan Tannukit, Director of the National Space Affairs Division, and Ms Sureeporn Phonsophonwich, Director of the Digital Development Fund for Economic and Social Administration Division, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to harness cutting-edge technology for the revitalisation of Phuket Province’s tourism economy.

This strategic visit unfolded at the Tha Chatchai Checkpoint in the picturesque Thalang District of Phuket Province, where critical components of the transformative 5G Use Case project are underway. This location is a central hub where multiple facets of the project converge, making it an ideal place for the delegation to oversee its development.

The primary objective behind this official visit was to ensure the seamless progression of all aspects of the 5G Use Case project, ensuring they align with the prescribed standards and objectives. The meticulous inspection and follow-up on the project’s performance underlines the dedication and commitment of government agencies and critical stakeholders to leverage the immense potential of digital technology and advancements in communications.
