Event Summary

Data Breaches and hacks of government networks, once novel and shocking, have become a problematic fact of life over the past few years. Cyber security, in fact has become the topmost concern of governments all around the world. From UK Parliament breach to the recent WannaCry global ransomware attack, the frequency and scale of cyber attacks is increasing.Recently, serious security flaws were found on official UK tax site.

A wide range of issues plague the government agencies and most of the governments particularly lags on replacing outdated software, patching current software and individual endpoint defence — but the good news is that these issues are largely fixable. Equifax, the credit report giant, has reported the worst-ever data breach that has happened in US.

About 143 million US customers have had information compromised in a cyber security breach. Cyber-criminals accessed data such as Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses during the incident. Singapore has put forth a holistic national cyber security strategy that will underpin its Smart Nation aspirations and act as an enabler for its economy and society, while enhancing its standing as a trusted digital hub.

Singapore has put forth a holistic national cyber security strategy that will underpin its Smart Nation aspirations and act as an enabler for its economy and society, while enhancing its standing as a trusted digital hub. This strategy outlines Singapore’s vision, goals and priorities in the online space and has four pillars:

  • Building a resilient infrastructure
  • Creating a safer cyberspace
  • Developing a vibrant cyber security ecosystem
  • Strengthening international partnerships

In Singapore, the recent Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks targeting two universities, and the occurrence of the global WannaCry and Petya/Petna malware attacks which also reached shores of Singapore serve as stark reminders of Singapore’s vulnerability to cyber threats.

Successful cyber-attacks can and have resulted in significant financial losses and disruptions to daily activities. Hence, the Government of Singapore is coming up with a new cyber security law for the protection of Singapore’s Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) which are necessary for the continuous delivery of Singapore’s essential services.

OpenGov is pleased to bring the first “Technology Day” – a uniquely designed delivery methodology of gamification in collaboration with three technology partners to serve the needs of Singapore’s IT security professionals. Termed as “Secure Day”, this exclusive formatted event is a must-attend for IT Security professionals. The gamification scenarios are designed to be interactive, with 'real' hands on scenarios, giving the attendees real ammunition to take back to the office.

These exclusive gamification scenarios will be presented with analysis and are meant to facilitate discussions on Cyber security issues affecting Singapore’s public-sector cyberspace and understanding Singapore’s cyber threat landscape, useful insights from cyber security operations and a glimpse into cutting-edge capabilities and technologies.
