Smart Thailand

Thailand has risen to be Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy. It has made remarkable progress in social and economic development, moving from a low-income country to an upper-income country in less than a generation. As such, Thailand has been one of the widely cited development success stories, with sustained strong growth.
Thailand is aiming to be the digital hub of Southeast Asia and has concrete plans to digitalise the country and create a knowledge based society with increased focus on ICT and digital investments. The concepts of Digital Thailand and Digital Economy endeavours to transform Thailand and to digitalise areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing, government services, businesses as well as various other sectors. Smart nation and Smart city plans are given a thrust, pushing forward with public investments in many areas.
Thailand’s digital economy is growing in keeping up with the government’s Thailand 4.0 vision. Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has set out plans to introduce a new digital identity system, artificial intelligence platforms, and increased cyber security.
The Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), has outlined a two-year road map to drive all state agencies toward digital governance by 2020. The road map encompasses seven functions set to ensure a full digital government transformation.
These seven functions are: government data exchange, one-stop service, government data centres, open government data, unified government communication, secure government intranet, and digital transformation…
The government data exchange focuses on creating proactive state data management and connectivity, as well as helping people when they apply for public services electronically. DGA will develop a mobile application to monitor the work and services of state agencies, so people can directly inform it when they have been asked to provide copied documents by state agencies.
By 2019, DGA plans to announce development of national open data sets in phase one, with 300-500 data sets developed to serve the public and private sectors.
The Thailand government aims to develop digital capabilities within all sectors, including agriculture, tourism, education, the medical profession, investment, disaster prevention, and public administration, in order to drive economic and social progress. To achieve this objective, digital technologies need to be incorporated into public services.

An integrated information network will be developed co-operatively by government agencies, with a focus on four key development models, namely Government Integration, Smart Operations, Citizen-Centric Services, and Driven Transformation.

The vision is to enhance the Thailand government to become digital government with government integration, smart operations, citizen-centric services, and driven transformation.
The objective of the plan is to strategically digitalise Thai government agencies, to deliver best citizen-centric services, with a high level of efficiency and transparency.
OpenGov is pleased to bring the highly anticipated Thailand OpenGov Leadership forum to be held on the 17th October 2019.
Here, you will meet international digital government leaders, C-level government experts and industry professionals addressing the most important policy, management and leadership issues surrounding the future of digital government and the role of the public-sector ICT officials in realising the vision of Thailand 4.0
