The Indian government has launched an online system, called eSanad, for document attestation for those who go abroad for work or study.
eSanad will enable online verification of documents. Its objective is to extend contactless, cashless and paperless document attestation/ apostille service (the apostille ensures that public documents issued in one signatory country will be recognized as valid in another signatory country to the Hague convention) to applicants in India as well as abroad. e-Sanad is integrated with Parinam Manjusha (results repository), the online digital repository of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), launched in November 2016. Parinam Manjusha allows students to access their marksheets and certificates online. The URL of Parinam Manjusha, cbse.digitallocker.gov.in, indicates that it is a part of the Indian government’s digital locker programme, which provides a platform for digital issuance and verification of documents & certificates, through shareable private space in the public cloud.
This integration of e-Sanad with the results repository will help applicants avoid long travels for getting their documents attested by the concerned authorities, thereby saving them time and money
eSanad has been designed and developed by the National Informatics Corporation (NIC) and will be implemented in phases. The first pilot phase of the implementation of eSanad has been started in five passport offices and it is in the process of being implemented in the Apostille/ Attestation Cell of the Ministry.
For the implementation of eSanad in the states, it is initially being integrated with theGeneral Administration (NRI) Department of the Government of Telangana as a pilot project. General Administration Department of the Government of Telangana is starting the online processing of application for attestation of documents soon.
In addition, eSanad has been integrated successfully with Non-Tax Receipt Portal (NTRP) for cashless payment. NTRP provides a one-stop window to citizens / corporates/other users for making online payment of Non-Tax Revenue payable to Government of India.
