Indonesia and Singapore are collaborating for the implementation of human resources (HR) training that is focused on industry development 4.0.
According to a recent press release, the Government of Indonesia, through the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) Ministry of Industry, worked with Singapore Polytechnic to further improve the quality of education in the country.
The aim is to produce industrial workers who are ready to enter the Industry 4.0.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita explained that Singapore is an important partner in the economic sector as well as in the field of education, especially those related to vocational programs.
Developing HR competencies, in fact, is in line with one of the national property agendas in the Making Indonesia 4.0 Roadmap.
The Government recognises the significance of having qualified human resources and its potential to address challenges, particularly those related to Industry 4.0.
As such, everyone is encouraged to adapt to the changes, including technological developments.
Innovation and technology are key to bringing the industry at par in the national and global levels.
However, these require skilled human resources. HR has a big role to play in advancing the industrial sector’s competitiveness.
About the initiative
On this aspect, Singapore will be working with the Ministry of Industry to upskill the Indonesians through vocational schools, polytechnics and community academies.
The curriculum was prepared and will be used in the aforementioned institutions to upskill the Indonesians.
The first workshop was attended by 60 participants from the polytechnics and community academies owned by the Ministry. Hopefully, these participants will end up as master trainers.
The Minister is hopeful that this cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore will continue and will bring forth an increase in the number of collaborations related to HR development.
Singapore’s President Halimah explained that the development of both HR and Industry 4.0 is a top priority for both countries.
Having the same goal, both countries should prepare the community for the technological disruption that Industry 4.0 brings. Not only that but also work together for the benefit of society, industry and the economy.
Both Singapore and Indonesia, according to her, are well aware that workers need to be equipped with appropriate skills in order to be able to adapt and take advantage of the opportunities of this advanced technology.
The training is the result of working together on the common vision. The cooperation provides an opportunity for the two countries to exchange experiences in an effort to spur the competence of workers in the industrial sector.
Singapore is committed to strengthening cooperation with Indonesia in beneficial areas. Hopefully, the training is in accordance with the needs of the participants and help in enriching them. More importantly, the training should be passed on to other teachers.
The Philippines and Singapore work together on Industry 4.0
Similarly, the Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore in 2019 so that both countries can cooperate on human capital development as well as the reskilling and skills upgrading of the workforce.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) went into an agreement with SkillsFuture Singapore.
The Philippines, through this MOU, seeks to partner with the Singaporean government and training institutions in order to improve the preparedness of the Filipinos for the needs of industry and the demands of the global market, particularly in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Memorandum of Understanding involves several areas of cooperation. These are:
- Human capital development knowledge-sharing
- Workforce capacity-building
- Conducting relevant studies towards crafting a comprehensive human capital development and skills training cooperation roadmap.
