OpenGov is recognising the LTA for taking forward Singapore’s Smart Mobility plans. Smart Urban Mobility seeks to leverage data and digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles (AVs), to further enhance the public transport commute. The Ministry of Transport and LTA announced in November that autonomous scheduled buses and autonomous on-demand shuttles will serve commuters in Punggol, Tengah and the Jurong Innovation District (JID) in Singapore from 2022. Singapore’s first autonomous vehicle test centre, the CETRAN AV Test Centre, jointly developed by LTA, NTU and JTC Corporation was opened in December last year.
LTA has also unveiled the Land Transport Industry Transformation Map, outlining a vision for a technology-enabled land transport system. Technology-related initiatives in the roadmap include a data warehouse to carry out advanced analytics on travel patterns, use of drones for inspection of MRT tunnels, a Rail Enterprise Asset Management System and a Common Fleet Management System for bus operators.
