Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Jinjiang City People’s Government commemorated the official launch of the “Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jinjiang Institute of Technology Innovation” during a signing and unveiling ceremony. This collaboration signifies their commitment to advancing technology and innovation in the Minhang region, with key figures from both institutions and government levels present at the ceremony, underlining their dedication to fostering innovation and education in the area.

The Chairman of the Council of Science at PolyU, along with the Vice President of Administration and the Vice President (Research and Innovation) convened with esteemed guests. Among them were the Secretary of the Quanzhou City Council; the Secretary of the Party Group of Taijian Party; the Deputy Hall of Fujian Province; the Secretary General of Quanzhou Xiaohua; the Secretary of Jinjiang Municipal Party; the Deputy Mayor of Quanzhou; the Mayor of Jinjiang City; and more than 200 representatives, including experts from Lida, leaders from Quanzhou and Jinjiang at various levels, and local industry leaders.

The establishment of the “Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jinjiang Institute of Technology Innovation” signifies Liang Da’s commitment to extending its technological influence beyond the Greater Bay Area. This institute will serve as a hub for collaborative research, academic exchanges, joint educational initiatives, and technology transfer. It will leverage its expertise in fields such as textile technology, innovative food, microelectronics, and Kocai policy to cultivate a cohort of exceptional engineers and technologically savvy entrepreneurs, thus becoming a wellspring of innovation for emerging industries, both locally and globally.

The Chairman of the Council of Science emphasised the pivotal role of technological innovation in societal progress. Jinjiang City, often heralded as the “brand capital of China,” boasts remarkable advancements in technology, economics, culture, and the arts. As a world-class research institution, PolyU views Jinjiang as a strategic launchpad to bolster technological innovation, particularly in textiles, smart manufacturing, integrated circuits, and green technology.

This collaboration aims to facilitate the seamless translation of technological breakthroughs into practical applications, thereby contributing to the “Jinjiang Experience” and the overall innovation and development of Jinjiang, Quanzhou, and Fujian.

The Vice President of Administration echoed these sentiments, highlighting the prominence of “high quality and brand creation” in Jinjiang’s economic and social development. HKPU, with its strengths in fundamental research and innovative entrepreneurship, aspires not only to excel in global scientific research but also to positively influence the socio-economic landscape. Jinjiang’s robust industrial foundation offers an ideal platform and real-world scenarios for HKPU’s research endeavours. This partnership has the potential to invigorate Jinjiang’s technology industry, fostering mutually beneficial outcomes.

The pivotal roles of education, technology and talent were emphasised in the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist nation and their importance as drivers of high-quality development within the private economy. He expressed a sincere desire for both institutions to deepen their collaboration in research and development, with a focus on political and industrial science.

Through the institute, they aim to facilitate the seamless integration of innovation chains, industrial chains, capital chains, and talent chains. Their joint efforts aspire to set a new precedent for collaboration within the Minhang educational landscape, harnessing the spirit of “opening doors as a mission, motivating individuals” in the new era of Jinjiang.

In addition to the ceremonial signing and unveiling, the event featured presentations from institute leaders on four research directions: textile technology, innovative food, microelectronics, and Cotin policy. These presentations offered valuable insights into the institute’s future development and its commitment to advancing technology and innovation in these critical areas.

Since the start of cross-border collaboration between mainland China and Hong Kong earlier this year, the Jinjiang People’s Government has established a robust connection with PolyU. In just a short period since the institute’s official launch, their collaborative efforts have been notably efficient. The University envisions a deepening partnership with Jinjiang’s local businesses through the research institute.

This collaboration aims to accelerate research and development in core technologies, establishing a strong presence in Jinjiang while extending its influence on Quanzhou and beyond. It seeks to strengthen ties between the two prestigious educational institutions in Minhang, creating a pioneering model of cooperation. The ultimate goal is to nurture innovative talents equipped with technological knowledge and a global perspective, driving forward the realms of technology and innovation.
