Carolyn Huston is a research statistician with CSIRO Data61. She completed a Phd. in Statistics at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. Recent work with the Victorian Government’s Powerline Bushfire Safety Program (PBSP) required data collaboration with distribution businesses (Ausnet Services and Powercor); state bodies including Energy Safe Victoria, the Country Fire Authority and DELWP; and sourcing information from federal bodies including the Emergency Services Authorities Council and the Australian Energy Regulator. Most importantly, analytics performed on this collective data has targeted powerline investment in such a way that up to 60% of bushfire ignition risk will be removed from Victoria’s electricity distribution networks.
