Henry Chao has over 20 years of experience leading national scale implementations of complex healthcare programs for the US Federal government. As Chief Technology Officer for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, he established technical standards and reference architectures to create greater efficiency, agility, and responsiveness to key healthcare business challenges while under extreme schedule constraints. As CMS’ Deputy Chief Information Officer, Mr. Chao led the design and implementation of a secure and efficient data hub solution supporting Federal and State agencies’ objectives in establishing a first ever online, real-time user experience for consumers shopping for health plans in the Insurance Marketplaces under the Affordable Care Act. A recognized and trusted leader, Mr. Chao has forged strategic relationships and formed coalitions with government and commercial organizations across the healthcare ecosystem to achieve common policy and business objectives. Mr. Chao is presently supporting a wide range of clients in the Health Information Technology sector as a Strategic Consultant and Solutions Architect. Mr. Chao is also the author of a new book “Success or Failure? The Untold Story of Healthcare.gov”.
