Philippine University Implements University-Wide Digital Transformation Initiative

Philippines De La Salle University Digital Transformation

The Philippines’ De La Salle University (DLSU), a leader in educational innovation, has embarked on a university-wide digital transformation initiative, which began this Academic Year 2019-2020.

According to a recent press release, the University coins this transformation drive as the BITUIN Project, which stands for Banner Initiative to Transform, Unify, Integrate, and Navigate.

About the Initiative

This move aims to drastically improve information access, streamline organisation processes, and enhance services for university stakeholders.

The University’s President, Br. Raymundo Suplido FSC, explained that this is in response to the ever-changing needs and challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

This will change the landscape of how the University facilitates learning, conducts its operations, and provides services to the stakeholders.

The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is BITUIN’s flagship initiative. It is a three-year project involving financial management, human resources management, and student life cycle.

The initiative’s project committee, together with faculty members and personnel and industry consultants, determined the gaps and the “pain points” in the student lifecycle, financial lifecycle, and HR lifecycle.

To address these, the University engaged with key partners for the said domains.

Who are Involved?

For the student lifecycle, the University works with a leading educational technology solution serving more than 200 institutions in six countries.

Together with its local implementing partner, the company provides customised offerings in the areas of, but not limited to the following:

  1. Student recruitment
  2. Assessment
  3. Admissions
  4. Enrolment
  5. Extra-curricular activities
  6. Support services
  7. Lifelong learning

For the concerns and challenges in the human resources domain, the University partnered with a company recognised in the region for its quality business solutions, consulting, and support services.

The company’s scope of work includes the following:

  1. Core HR 201
  2. Employee benefits
  3. Labour and relation
  4. Time and attendance
  5. Global payroll
  6. Learning and performance management
  7. Succession planning
  8. Recruitment and on-boarding

Meanwhile, for the gaps in the financial domain, the University tapped a company with an expertise in financial management solutions.

The company will offer improvements in the following:

  1. Process documentation
  2. Implement Oracle Fusion
  3. Provide user training and technical support

The partnerships were formalised in a contract signing ceremony last 24 September at the University. The event was attended by University administrators and key representatives from the three companies.

According to the University’s President, harnessing digital technology will allow the University to maximise its resources and enable the delivery of quality education that befits its aspirations as a university of regional standing.

The shared commitment to the Lasallian mission and the individual desire for lifelong learning will ensure the success of this digital transformation.
