In a significant move towards supporting national and regional carbon reduction initiatives, the Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre (APAS) announced a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Foshan Xianhu Laboratory.

The collaboration aims to drive the development of hydrogen vehicles and new energy technologies, injecting fresh momentum into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Amid the backdrop of the National 14th Five-Year Plan and the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint, both of which prioritise the advancement of new energy technologies, APAS and Foshan Xianhu Laboratory are set to combine their efforts.

The strategic partnership aims to accelerate the growth of high-quality hydrogen vehicles and the new energy industry within the GBA. Their collaborative endeavours will provide vital technical support for the adoption of hydrogen and hydrogen-ammonia technologies, aligning closely with government policies and strategies.

This collaboration represents a major step forward in the pursuit of technological excellence and underscores the commitment of APAS and Foshan Xianhu Laboratory to foster innovation in the field of hydrogen and new energy. By leveraging their combined expertise, they aim to revolutionise the transportation landscape and drive the sustainable development of the GBA region.

The partnership between APAS and Foshan Xianhu Laboratory will undoubtedly pave the way for groundbreaking advancements in hydrogen and new energy technologies, serving as a testament to the transformative power of technological cooperation in addressing pressing environmental challenges.

In light of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government’s strong commitment to promoting the hydrogen industry and green transportation, the General Manager of the Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre (APAS) expressed the government’s efforts in launching several initiatives to drive environmentally-friendly industries, new energy vehicles, and smart mobility. The Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint also prioritises the advancement of new energy technology development.

APAS’s dedicated focus on hydrogen development in recent years, which has resulted in significant achievements, was highlighted. The R&D centre successfully pioneered the development of the hydrogen fuel cell off-grid charger and hydrogen fuel cell forklift, positioning APAS as a key player in the hydrogen sector.

These accomplishments align with the government’s vision and demonstrate APAS’s contribution to the promotion of sustainable and clean energy solutions, furthering the advancement of the hydrogen industry and supporting the Blueprint’s objectives.

The Executive Deputy Director of Foshan Xianhu Laboratory welcomed the partnership with APAS, recognising their leadership in hydrogen energy technology development in Hong Kong. He emphasised that new energy technology is a crucial strategic emerging industry outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

There is significant potential in the collaboration between Foshan Xianhu Laboratory and APAS, combining their respective expertise in hydrogen and new energy development. Together, they aim to drive the widespread adoption of new energy and hydrogen energy technologies, ultimately establishing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and liveable smart city.

The partnership will leverage their collective knowledge and capabilities to propel the development and implementation of innovative solutions that contribute to the region’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.

APAS collaborates with industry, academia, and research sectors in Hong Kong to support the new energy vehicle market. Partnering with Foshan Xianhu Laboratory, a provincial-level platform in Guangdong Province, they focus on researching key materials for fuel cells, integrated hydrogen vehicle development, and other aspects.

The collaboration facilitates technology exchange, demonstration applications, policy recommendations, and support for hydrogen industry research and training. Their joint efforts aim to promote hydrogen vehicle adoption and advance new energy development in the region.
